OUR MISSION: To assist children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families by training, placing and supporting dogs that offer safety, companionship and independence.
Pawsitive Independence Autism Service Dogs of Saskatchewan Inc. (PIASD) is not just a mouthful to introduce; We are also a dedicated group of individuals commited to providing fully-equiped and trained companion and service dogs to Saskatchewan families with children with autism between the ages of 2-18.
PIASD was founded in 2013 by a team of diversly trained individuals with a passion for helping others. They had first hand knowledge and experience with animals that not only seemed to enrich their child's lives, the dogs seemed to also offer an opportunity to engage the children in daily and social activities as well as empower the children and the rest of the family. With two boys in thier family living with autism, the hunt for a service dog began! After many road blocks, struggles and dead ends they decided to take matters into their own hands! They approached a local trainer and Pawsitive Independence was born!
What makes PIASD different than some other service dog programs is that we are commited to helping meet the needs of families by offering a variety of support services during the integration of their new animal. PIASD provides customized training to meet family's individual and ever-so-changing needs that begins even before placement of one of our dogs in their homes as well as any and all follow-up required. All of PIASD staff and volunteers have extensive training not only with our dogs but also with autism so we can best meet the needs of our approved families.
